1. Who can join the Muizenberg Community Watch (MCW)?

Any Muizenberg resident who resides (owner or tenant) within the bounds (6 pods) of the MCW is elligible to apply for membership. Please refer to the detailed map on our homepage.

2. How do I join the Muizenberg Community Watch (MCW)?

It's a simple process. You need to fill out our application form. Please note that we will require a copy of your ID or passport for a mandatory SAPS background check. Once cleared, you will be added to our Whatsapp community. If you are interested in patrolling, patrol training will be scheduled with members. Once patrol training is concluded you will be added to the patrol group.

3. In which areas do active patrolling take place?

We patrol the areas (6 pods) indicated on our MCW area map. 

4. Is there a Whatsapp group I can join?

Yes, you will be added to the members-only Whatsapp group once your membership application was successful.

5. Can I join if I don't live in the official boundaries of the Muizenberg Community Watch (MCW)?

Unfortunately not. Membership is reserved for those who live within the boundaries of the MCW area map.

6. Do I have to do active patrolling as a member of the Muizenberg Community Watch (MCW)? 

Participating in active patrolling is optional. Not all members are required to do active patrolling.

Members have the option to be:

• active members (patrolling, monitoring CCTV cameras)  

• passive members - those who are the eyes and ears in the neighbourhood. 

• financial supporters of the MCW - donating funds towards our efforts.
  
  

7. How do the active patrols work?

Our active patrollers firstly do training with Law Enforcement Officials (1 hour in the classroom, 1 hour out in a vehicle).
Patrols will always happen in groups of 2 or more, and will either be on foot or in a vehicle. A patrol roster manages the time slots and members will be properly equipped with all the necessary gear by the MCW.

9. How does my private security tie in the with the Muizenberg Community Watch (MCW)?

The MCW work in close collaboration with other public and private security providers in the area. Our security partners include SAPS, LE, CPF, MID and Mountain Men and all private security providers. Please remember that the MCW is not a substitute for your private provider, but rather an added layer of eyes and ears to strengthen and support the work of these stakeholders on the ground.
